cock's comb and morning glory
stretch upward and yawn
rising swift in the linens
solstice in young light
Lucia's blouse drifts
in the hotel's fluorescence
snapping fresh bedsheets
the mattress a palimpsest
her hands its palette
olives to the martini
ginger to sushi
taste cleansed over and over
her glass swaggering
with emphasis, arms alive
toward a sleeper's gaping mouth,
eight black and barbed legs
spider down the windowpane
webs of hair falling,
settling, leaves prophesize
aged eyes dampen, drowsily,
liquid darkens from
chrysanthemum to sod.
